Wisconsin Men’s Basketball – An Elite Season

With the Badgers’ 69-52 thrashing of Baylor in the Sweet 16, they have advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005.  That year was my final full year as photo editor at the Badger Herald and I was lucky enough to work for a paper that paid for myself and two reporters to drive from Madison to Oklahoma City for the Badgers’ first two games against Northern Iowa and Bucknell then onto Syracuse for their games against North Carolina State and finally North Carolina.  That season and the trip across country following these Badgers is one I’ll never forget.  This wasn’t Bo Ryan’s most talented team, but they found ways to win over and over and pushed the eventual national champion Tarheels to the brink before falling in the regional finals.

So last night’s Badger victory got me reminiscing to a time almost a decade ago when the likes of Mike Wilkinson, Alando Tucker, Kammron Taylor, Sharif Chambliss, Clayton Hanson, Zach Morley and Michael Flowers were the faces of Badger basketball.  Below are a few images from that season.
