A few things about this wedding…
- Derek has a great first name and he pulled off the first mid-ceremony Blue Steel that I’ve seen since becoming a wedding photographer. It may have been purposeful or it may have been unintentional as happens to most Dereks on a daily basis.
- Dellwood Barn in St. Paul is an awesome venue. The barn is awesome. Laurel and Derek’s wedding weekend coincided with a large area of trees that had just turned fiery red. It was one of the first things I noticed when I arrived and I decided we had to get into those trees for some photos. There was only a small space where one could walk, which was along a fence line at the back of the stand of red trees. So big props to Laurel for trekking through the trees in her dress to get what ended up as one of my favorite photos of the year.
- I’ve shot about half a dozen Jewish weddings and the Hora remains as one of my favorite wedding day traditions. If you aren’t familiar with the Hora, The Knot describes it like this: “..a few strong and brave guests hoist the bride and groom high above the crowd on chairs to the infectious sounds of ‘Hava Nagila.’ Friends and family dance around in an ecstatic circle as the elevated couple tries not to look (or fall) down.” And that is what happened. Laurel and Derek remained upright the entire time.
This was a fun wedding. Congrats Laurel and Derek!!
