This is a wedding I’ll remember for a long time. The weather was a trip all day long. Heavy fog concealing the ceremony site at Spirit Mountain well into the morning and even thicker fog during photos in Canal Park. That was followed by hours of rolling thunder and ominous clouds, but only one short period of rain. It still wasn’t raining 10 minutes before the ceremony so the call was made to have the wedding outdoors. As the wedding party began making their way up the aisle and right on cue, the rain started and it came down heavy. Umbrellas went up, the bridesmaids used their shawls to block the rain and the ceremony went on the fast track.
Weather like this brings out such great emotions in people. As if a wedding wasn’t already a time to be happy, the rain only brings out more smiles and laughter while adding scenes you wouldn’t normally see in an outdoor ceremony. Near the end, the water got the best of my camera, but I was able to capture Jen and Konrad walking away in the rain, which might be my favorite ceremony shot so far this year. All was good as I have backups to my backups and I’ll take capturing an important and fun memory like this over a piece of equipment any day.
If any of the flower girls look familiar, it’s because I photographed Konrad’s brother Kevin’s wedding in 2011. So it was great to see some familiar faces. Speaking of familiar faces, big thanks to Clint Austin for helping me second shoot this wedding and for picking the dry, sheltered spot during the ceremony so that we were covered no matter what. Finally, congrats Jen and Konrad!!
